Safelists often receive a bad press and to be honest they are not the most effective method of getting subscribers and can be a bit of a pain BUT…

If you’re talking about driving traffic and building up your list from the beginning then there’s no easier free way of doing that and it’s an option that should be considered before being dismissed.

To put it another way safelists are good for building your list BUT NOT for trying to sell through. Get people onto your list first, build the relationship and then make the sale.

Safelists are simply services that allow you to email other people on the safelist in exchange for you receiving emails from others too. These are credit based safelists and are the only safelists worth your time.

With credit based safelists people get credits for reading your email so you’ve got a much better chance of getting your message opened rather that just getting binned (as happens on nearly all non credit based lists)

Plus most credit based safelists are double opt in systems meaning that you (and everyone else) will have to confirm your email address, meaning no fake email time wasters.

The system differs from list to list in terms of the number of emails you have to read before you can send a certain number in return, or the number of seconds you have to keep an email opened for to earn a credit or the number of credits you have to earn to send out but remember these basics to make the most of your opportunity…

You don’t have time to sell anything in your email!

Why?

The reader is only really reading your message so that they can earn their credits.

Very few will actually be looking for something other than creating credits BUT…

That doesn’t mean that you cannot convince them to go and check something out with a compelling and well written, short email with an attention grabbing headline!

the bottom line is that if you join a safelist and send a short email sending the reader to your squeeze page you will get some subscribers to your list.

You also have options to upgrade to be able to send to more people more regularly and to receive less mail in return but I’ll just be sticking with the free options at least at first.

If you’re going to use safelists it’s recommended to create yourself a new dedicated email address specifically for safelist use (or even 2: one for your safelist use and one as your contact email)

NEVER use your personal email address, you’ll be getting loads of emails and it’ll be a pain if it’s not separated into a specific account.

So that’s a brief safelist crash course and here are some safelists you might want to consider using listed here:
